Why Facials Are Worth Every Penny (and We’re Not the Only Ones Saying So!)

MONEY

A facial is one of the best ways to take care of your skin, especially when it’s given by an experienced, knowledgeable esthetician.   A facial cleans, exfoliates and nourishes the skin, promoting a clear, well-hydrated complexion, and can help your skin look younger.

A facial is the second most popular spa treatment after a massage. A facial works best when it is part of an on-going program of skin care.

Most facials use a machine that directs a thin vapor of warm steam to your face. This is relaxing and helps softens up any blackheads and whiteheads to be extracted. If you have very sensitive skin, the esthetician may not use steam.

The process of exfoliation rids the body of any dry, dull skin by removing dead skin cells from the surface of the epidermis. By removing these dead cells, exfoliation can help keep pores from becoming clogged and leave skin with a refreshed and clean feeling. What’s the benefit to clean and clear pores? Clogged pores can result in blackheads and acne. Furthermore, when pores are clogged, they appear larger. So, if you’re worried about the size of your pores, although you can’t reduce their actual size (genetics is the biggest factor in pore size), you can help diminish their appearance by keeping them clog-free.

A facial mask takes place after cleansing, skin analysis, exfoliation, extractions and massage during a professional facial.  Facial masks treat your particular skin type or condition.  For instance, if you’re dry or dehydrated, the facial mask should hydrate your skin. If your skin is red or inflamed, the mask should calm and soothe. If your skin is oily and congested, the facial mask can help draw out impurities from the skin.

Microcurrent facial is a therapeutic treatment that delivers safe, painless, low-level electrical impulses to strategic locations under the skin to firm and tone the facial muscles on both an immediate and long-term basis. The technology simultaneously repairs collagen in the dermis (the deepest layer of the skin), while gently erasing signs of aging in the epidermis (the top layer of skin). As we age, our electrical impulses slow down causing aging and sagging facial skin. Microcurrent works in harmony with the natural bio-electrical currents naturally found in our bodies to help speed up the cellular regenerative process resulting in firmer, healthier, more youthful looking skin.

Facial peels involve the application of substances such as chemicals to exfoliate damaged skin. Facial peels can benefit the appearance of your facial skin. The peels slough off the top layer of skin, revealing newer, more youthful skin. The results you get from a facial peel depend on the depth of the peel and the concentration of the chemicals applied.
