The Importance of Knowing Your Esthetician

It’s crazy to think that you might end up paying money for a facial that could have the opposite effect on your skin!

If you go to an unprofessional, under skilled, untrained “facial-list” you could experience permanent damage to your face.

At the Facial Bungalow we pride ourselves on skin education and our team of highly experienced estheticians are trained to ensure clients leave with gorgeous, glowing skin.  We hear so many horror stories of bad facials that it inspired us to write this blog.  Here are our main concerns with not using a certified, highly trained esthetician:

1. Acne scarring –

If an esthetician is not properly trained in extractions she could cause major acne scarring on your skin. It is important to know that the esthetician you choose either works with a doctor or has a great reputation for acne facials before trusting them with your skin.

2. Hyper-pigmentation –

An inexperienced esthetician can thin your skin with too strong or frequent microdermabrasion’s or peels. She could cause hot spots (areas of your skin that is so thin it burns or causes hyper-pigmentation). Especially if you are not guided to reapply your sunscreen every two hours. Also if you do these treatments at the wrong times of the year, (instead say – You should not do these treatments at certain times of the year, ) like summer.

3. Burns –

An inexperienced esthetician can often burn people’s skin by not being skilled in proper consultations. If an esthetician does not start your first treatment with a thorough consultation BEWARE. So many people have sensitive or sensitized skin. Many different products used in a spa or medi spa can burn people’s skin. If your skin does get a burn then know that your body considers it a wound and unless treated properly and keeping sunscreen on it every two hours you could end up with a permanent brown spot (hyper-pigmentation.)

4. Pre-mature Aging –

Anything an inexperienced, unprofessional esthetician does on your skin could cause pre-mature aging. Just so you know, a hairdresser can all of a sudden decide she wants to be an esthetician… and she can. It’s a flaw in the system but it is under their cosmetology license. Also, an esthetician in California, after graduating is not required to take any further training for the rest of their entire career. Another flaw in the system. Make sure your esthetician comes highly recommended.

5. Skin bacterial infections –

One of the biggest problems in this business of esthetics is proper sanitation. It should be the most important, as we deal with bacteria and blood. This is the majority of our training in school and what we are mainly tested on. Unfortunately this is something many estheticians and spas forget about out of pure laziness and unprofessionalism. This could lead you right to your dermatologist office for a bacterial infection on your face or some kind of skin disease.  Make sure to look around inside your estheticians room and see that it looks clean and sanitary. If you question it…. leave.
