Ever wondered why your skin is more prone to breakouts in the Summer months? Here’s six helpful hints and tips with product suggestions from our very own Trina Renea to help keep your skin clear this Summer:
1) Load Up with a Light Sunscreen. Be sure to apply enough sunscreen. Many of us are afraid of slathering on too much sunscreen in fear that it will clog our pores. Just use a light sunscreen that the skin can easily absorb to avoid breakouts and sunburn!

Another safe one is https://www.laroche-posay.us/shop-by/view-all-product-lines/anthelios which is 1.7oz.
2) Use a gentle cleanser! During the summer months your face is sun kissed and more fragile. A gentle cleanser will not only calm your skin but also keep from stripping it and making it drier than the sun already is.
3) Exfoliate Without Scrubbing. There are two kinds of exfoliants: physical (those gritty scrubs with chunks of seeds or grit) and chemical (think fruit acids). They both remove dead skin cells, but many of the physical ones can be too harsh, leaving your skin pink and irritated. Instead, look for an exfoliant containing alpha and beta hydroxyl acids, or fruit enzymes.
4) Shrink Oil Glands. Use Retinol at night. Mattifying products soak up skin’s existing oil, but they can’t reduce oil at its source. What can? Retinol, which actually shrinks oil glands and boosts collagen production over time.
5) Banish body acne. The only thing cute about “back-ne” is its punny name. Fight back by using only noncomedogenic sunscreens, changing out of sweaty clothes right away (as they can trap bacteria), and switching out your regular body wash for one with two percent salicylic acid, like Neutrogena Body Clear Body Wash Pink Grapefruit. When you’re dry, apply a two percent salicylic acid gel, but steer clear of benzoyl peroxide because it can bleach clothes.
Trina suggests using a benzol peroxide cleanser “in the shower” for body acne. It will help kill the bacteria that causes acne without the worry of bleaching your clothes.
Another great thing to carry with you in your bag after a workout or a long day at the beach are Glycolic / salicylic PADS to wipe away the sweat and oil and kill the bacteria that causes the acne.
6) Fight existing zits. Even with the best skin-care routine, a few spots may break out here and there. For run-of-the-mill bumps, dab on a salicylic acid cream or gel, since putting it on your entire face can be too drying. For more troublesome blemishes, cover the breakout with hydrocortisone and seal it with waterproof Nextcare Band Aids; the seal intensifies the potency of the treatment and should, like a mini steroid injection, reduce its size and inflammation by the next morning.
